Achievements

What we have achieved together

There is so much that has been achieved in the last twenty years – with the benefit of some very generous benefactors. Perhaps the biggest difficulty we have faced was the massive collapsing wall behind the almshouses in Mill Street. Many of the works undertaken are detailed in this video – all pictures courtesy of David Castle, collated by Joanna Castle.

Although the largest and most complex work has been carried out at Mill Street with the restoration of the rear wall and renovation of all the almshouses, work continues on all the properties. Listed building and old construction materials require expensive repairs
More recent projects have included new gas central heatingand fitted kitchens at Eagles Close. The old wooden sheds in Mill Street have been replaced, new rear doors have been installed, and new windows are to be installed. These tasks are made all the more problematical as the buildings are Grade II listed, so permission has to be sought. The volunteer’s work goes on.
