 | Wantage has Three sets of Almshouses, in Eagles Close, Mill Street and Stiles Court. |
| The first two are managed by the Wantage Townland Governors, and Stiles Court has its’ own Charity. |  |
 | The Wantage Townland Governors have existed as a Charitable Body since at least the reign of King Henry the Sixth. |
| In 1597 Queen Elizabeth confirmed them in their office and in possession of their Trust Properties. |  |
 | Their Duties were defined by an Act of Parliament which laid down that their number was to be twelve. |
